Hieronymus Bosch and Pieter Bruegel the Elder by Colin Batty
Bosch and Bruegel
The Bosch and Bruegel Society was founded on a common fondness for the work of the painters Hieronymus Bosch (c.1450 -1516) and Pieter Bruegel the Elder (c.1525 -1569). We are dedicated to the joyous, focused exploration of the worlds bequeathed us in their paintings.
Examples of our inquiries include “The Problem of the Dog-Legged Gate and its Appearance in the Works of Bosch and Bruegel,” and the reproduction of The Lapis Documents, undocumented pages from the personal journal of an artist working in the Low Countries during the 16th Century. The authenticity of these documents is under question but their provocative and entertaining nature cannot be doubted. The Bosch and Bruegel Society topic list is as varied and fantastic as the works of the artists themselves and it leads to a fuller appreciation of their art.
